Immunochemistry Methodology Update

Effective December 11th, 2019, Spectrum Health Regional Laboratory’s Immunochemistry laboratory will be upgrading the following tests from the Immunoassay Vidas platform to the Multiplex flow immunoassay Bioplex 2200 platform.

Cytomegalovirus IgG Antibody

Cytomegalovirus IgM Antibody

Toxoplasma IgG Antibody

Toxoplasma IgM Antibody

Lyme Total Antibody

All tests will continue to have the same collection instructions, processing instructions, rejection criteria, specimen stability, turn-around-time, and qualitative reference ranges of negative.

The most notable difference will be the Lyme Disease Serology test which will transition from separate IgG and IgM tests to a single Total Lyme Antibody test.  The Total Lyme Antibody test is designed to detect both IgG and IgM antibodies but will not differentiated between the two antibody classes in the final result.  The Lyme Total Antibody test demonstrates a closer concordance to the confirmatory Lyme Disease Antibody, Immunoblot, Serum test.  All equivocal and positive Lyme results will continue to be sent to the Mayo Clinic for Lyme Immunoblot confirmation as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
