As of 5/18/2021 – Production of collection kits is no longer limited. Please resume normal ordering practices.
There is a national shortage of testing and collection material for Chlamydia Trachomatis (CT) and Gonococcal (GC) infections. Spectrum Health is currently experiencing difficulties obtaining collection kits to perform the testing for all methods.
Spectrum Health Laboratories have multiple methods of collection and testing for GC/CT. Abbott Multi Collect collection kits (Lawson #659762) have become extremely limited. Alternative collection methods are still available to support this testing but are becoming more limited.
At current volumes, it is anticipated Spectrum Health Laboratories have enough alternative collection supplies on hand to overcome the Abbott Multi Collect collection kit interruption. See table below outlining alternative collection kits for STI testing .
Abbott Multi Collect and APTIMA collection kits may continue to be used until supplies are depleted. If alternatives are needed reference the table below outlining STI collection kits, ordering information, acceptable collection sources, and corresponding test names.
For placing orders, we ask that you order APTIMA tests with the APTIMA collection device and Abbott tests with the Abbott collection device. If you happen to order the incorrect test for the collection device, Spectrum Health Laboratories will cancel the incorrect test and order the correct test on your behalf. Please refer to the chart below for ordering information.
