APTIMA STI Collection Device Shortage

There is currently a national shortage of STI collection kits for APTIMA testing. This shortage will affect APTIMA testing for Chlamydia, Gonococcus, Trichomonas and Mycoplasma Genitalium (MGen). Spectrum Health Laboratories does offer alternative collection devices and testing for Chlamydia, Gonococcus and Trichomonas.

If you have APTIMA collection devices, continue to use them until you run out.

Once you place your next order, you may receive Abbott Multi-collect collection devices. Abbott may be used for Chlamydia and Gonococcus testing.

Trichomonas testing cannot be run on Abbott collection device. For Trichomonas testing, please submit a sterile urine cup for Trichomonas Antigen Testing.

For placing orders, we ask that you order APTIMA tests with the APTIMA collection device and Abbott tests with the Abbott collection device or sterile urine cup for trichomonas testing. If you happen to order the incorrect test for the collection device, Spectrum Health Laboratories will cancel the incorrect test and order the correct test on your behalf. Please refer to the chart below for ordering information.
